Biography
Hi,
I am Sumit Agrawal, currently working as a Senior Engineer, Multimedia Systems R&D at Qualcomm. Responsibilities involve research and development of imaging systems and sensing hardware, reconstruction software, signal processing and artificial intelligence based algorithms. I have worked as an Ultrasound Imaging Systems Engineer at EXO for an year where day-to-day work involved design and development of imaging systems pipeline, signal processing and AI based image enhancement algorithms for point-of-care ultrasound device.
I earned PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Biophotonics and Ultrasound Imaging Lab at Pennsylvania State University. My research involved realizing miniaturized Ultrasound and Photoacoustic devices with integration of deep learning algorithms to improve the imaging performance and molecular sensitivity, hence making them smart. My day-to-day work involves hands-on hardware development and sensor realization along with the software development for data processing, image reconstruction, modelling and simulations.
I received my B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication in July 2012 from GLA Institute (Affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh State Technical University). While there, I did research on decoding algorithms for quasi-cylic low density parity check codes. Later, in 2012, I joined M.Tech. in Media and Sound Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, India. I did my thesis there on rate control of H.264 and High Efficiency Video Coding.
I joined KLA Tencor in 2014 and worked there for an year exploring image processing algorithms for defect inspection in silicon wafers during IC fabrication. I later joined SkinCurate Research, an India based smart medical imaging devices startup, where I developed interest in medical imaging and machine learning.
Besides academics, I am also passionate about playing musical instruments – Keyboard, classical violin and mouth organ. I consider life as a small journey and believe in making good relations with the people met in the journey.
